Challenge
Hearing loss is one of the most common disabilities in the United States. Deaf and hard-of-hearing employees face a number of challenges with communication at work. But many hearing managers and coworkers are uncertain how to create a work environment that facilitates productive communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing coworkers.Â
Solution
The goal for this sample piece was to create a printable one-page job aid to accompany an eLearning course that I created in Rise (How to Host Accessible Meetings with Deaf Participants). This job aid serves as a quick reminder of six key takeaways from the course. The job aid is not branded, and is equally useful in any job-related setting.
Results
Managers and supervisors can review this job aid whenever they need to schedule in-person or virtual meetings with deaf or hard-of-hearing participants, in order to make sure they've taken the necessary steps to make the meeting as accessible as possible.
